Memorial, 2025

In this mixed-media installation, I wrote the names of approximately 1,000 people killed in the Burmese civil war in 2021 alone, each one handwritten to reflect their individuality and humanity. These names were then concealed beneath a layer of parchment paper, symbolising how quickly human lives are obscured by time, indifference, and media neglect.

On top of this, I layered gel prints of trivial celebrity gossip and absurd news stories, the kind of sensationalised headlines that dominate front pages while stories of mass violence and political injustice are pushed into obscurity. At the far end of the installation, a projection of myself plays in a loop, endlessly writing more names, a gesture to the ongoing nature of the conflict, and the unceasing toll it takes. The names are inexhaustible. The ink never runs dry. This piece is both a memorial and a critique, a meditation on how conflict is buried under spectacle, and how grief becomes invisible when numbers replace names.
